A woman was struck and killed by a car as she crossed Jericho Turnpike Tuesday, according to Nassau County Police.

Cops said Susan Katz, 68, of Roslyn, was walking across Jericho Turnpike west of Herricks Road when she was struck by a 2012 Jeep Liberty at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday.

The Jeep was heading west on Jericho and was driven by an unidentified 42-year-old woman from Long Beach, police reported.

How sad, maybe someday the people on LI will learn how to drive and watch for pedestrians.. Remembering that pedestrians have the right of way... ALWAYS.

I wonder if she was crossing in the middle of the block and not in the crosswalk. I have seen many pedestrians, dressed in black, at night, standing on the double line or crossing in the middle of the block. A driver can't see them until he/she is really close. Pedestrians need to share the responsibility of their own safety.
