A West Babylon man spotted driving more than 100 miles per hour by Exit 36, the Searingtown Road – Port Washington exit, on the Long Island Expressway was arrested Thursday, police say.

The man, Nigel Recass of 412 Herzel Boulevard, tried to prevent drivers from passing him, frequently changing lanes without signaling and causing others to brake suddenly, according to the Nassau County Highway Patrol Bureau.

He also followed other motorists too closely, “almost striking them,” police said in a statement.

Police stopped Recass at Exit 39, the Glen Cove Road exit, where he was arrested.

He was charged with reckless driving, illegal speed contest, fivecounts of failing to signal lane change, five counts of following too closely, four counts of failing to stay in a single lane, driving in excess of 55 miles per hour, inadequate muffler and obstructed registration plates.

Recass is scheduled to appear in First District Court in Hempstead on Aug. 19.
