Mineola

A multi-story construction crane collapsed in Mineola Wednesday afternoon, injuring its operator and closing off Mineola Boulevard to traffic for much of the day.

Westbury

A fire occurred at 695 Bryant Street on December 15. Firefighters placed the blaze under control at about 3:35 p.m.

Police are investigating a burglary that occurred between Dec. 17 at 11 p.m. and Dec. 18 at 6:20 a.m. in Westbury. According to detectives, a 34-year old male victim went to sleep in his upstairs bedroom located on Hyacinth Street at 11 p.m. on Dec. 17. When he awoke on Dec. 18 at 6:20 a.m. he found that unknown subject(s) had entered an unlocked rear first floor window and took an unknown amount of cash, assorted gift cards, credit cards, a laptop, Bose docking system and a Blackberry. It was also determined that the subjects took a 2000 Honda Accord and a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox parked in the victims’ driveway. The 2010 Honda was later recovered by the New York State Police abandoned on the Northern State Parkway near Wantagh Avenue. Detectives request anyone with information regarding this crime to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.

Police arrested a homeless man for grand larceny on Thursday, December 19 at 3 p.m. in Hicksville. According to detectives, the female victim, 22, called her missing cell phone which was answered by Lamont Holloway, a homeless man 46 years of age. Holloway told the victim he would return the victims phone in exchange for $20. The parties met at the Hicksville train station where Holloway refused to produce the phone but demanded the money. An argument ensued resulting in responding officers placing Holloway under arrest without incident.  The phone was not recovered. Holloway is charged with fourth degree attempted grand larceny and was arraigned on December 20 at First District Court in Hempstead.

Hicksville

A fatal car accident occurred in Hicksville on Monday, December 16 at 12:55 a.m. where according to detectives, Christine Monaco, 29, of Hicksville was operating a 2002 Toyota northbound on North Broadway when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole in front of 195 North Broadway. The victim was removed to an area hospital where she was pronounced at 1:45 a.m. The vehicle was impounded for brake and safety checks. Detectives report no apparent criminality at this time.

Franklin Square

An emotionally disturbed person had barricaded themselves in a home near Second Avenue and Fourth Street on December 19. Police reported that the person relinquished a knife in which they were in possession and were taken into custody at 12:21 a.m.

Garden City

On Dec. 16 Garden City detectives arrested a 46-year-old woman from Stewart Manor for making numerous harassing phone calls to a man in Garden City. She was charged with aggravated harassment.

On Dec. 17 the fire and police departments responded to a fire call at Adelphi University's Eddy Hall. The building, a dorm, was evacuated and upon investigation of the GCPD, GCFD, Adelphi Public Safety and the NCPD Arson Squad, an 18-year-old from Richmond Hill was arrested for recklessly starting a fire in a garbage receptacle on the first floor. There were no reported injuries and there was minor damage from the fire.

West Hempstead

Nassau County Police are searching for a man who robbed the Roslyn Savings Bank in West Hempstead on Friday morning. Police said that at 9:40 a.m., an unknown male black subject entered the bank, located at 50 Hempstead Tpke., and presented a robbery demand note to the teller. After obtaining an undetermined amount of money, police said the subject fled the bank on foot westbound on Hempstead Turnpike.
