Crimes Nearby: Cocaine Bust, Walking Dead-Related Shooting and Pedestrian Hit by Bus

A look at crimes in the towns surrounding New Hyde Park.

The following arrest information was supplied by several local police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate convictions.

Mineola

A car accident was reported on Jericho Turnpike and Willis Avenue on December 4 at 9:48 a.m. The Mineola Volunteer Ambulance Corps. transported an approximately 70-year old female who was injured in the rear-end collision toWinthrop University-Hospital.

Nassau County Police are searching for a suspect involved in a robbery of a 30-year old man at the Mineola Train Station on December 4 at 5 p.m.

A Mineola man was arrested on Tuesday after allegedly selling cocaine to undercover officers in Potsdam, NY.

Williston Park

A motorcycle accident occurred on Hillside Avenue and Willis Avenue on December 2 at 4:23 p.m. The Williston Park Fire Department responded to the scene.

A mother and her 11-year-old daughter were pinned against the side of a Wendy’s in Williston Park late on December 4 when a car jumped the curb.

A Williston Park man has been arrested and charged with attempted murderafter allegedly shooting a female in the back over text messages. Police say that the argument was over an episode of the cable-TV series “The Walking Dead.”

Floral Park

A car overturned at Floral Boulevard and Elm Avenue on December 3 at 7:15 a.m. Police responded to reports of a victim trapped inside. 

Franklin Square

A car crashed into a building at 1114 Hempstead Turnpike on December 3 at 9:31 a.m.

Roslyn

A motorcycle accident with injuries occurred in the eastbound lances of the Northern State Parkway at exit 27 on December 1 at 2:30 p.m. An ambulance transported a 69 year old male to North Shore Manhasset with pain in his left knee. There was o other obvious injuries.

A multi-car accident occurred in the eastbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway taking out the HOV and left lane between exits 37 and 38 on December 1 at 3:39 p.m.

A overturned car was reported on December 7 at 12:25 a.m. at 179 Main St. A person was reportedly pinned with rescue teams responding to the scene.

Old Westbury

A truck fire occurred on Wheatley Road and Applegreen Drive on December 5 at 12:02 p.m. The Roslyn Fire Department responded to the scene.

Westbury

A bias incident occurred between Friday, November 30 at 11 p.m. and Saturday, December 1 at 8:05 a.m. when a four-foot by four-foot wooden Menorah that was displayed at the Carman Avenue Green at 801 Carman Ave. was intentionally damaged. Detectives request anyone with information regarding this crime to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.

A car accident occurred at Brush Hollow Road and Parkwood Road on December 7 at 5:26 p.m. causing delays in the area. The car reportedly struct a fire hydrant requiring the water department to the scene.

Post Avenue was closed at Drexel Avenue in both directions on December 8 at 9:06 a.m. due to an auto accident. It was reopened at about 9:17 a.m.

Carle Place

A pedestrian was struck at Westbury Avenue and Silver Lake Boulevard on December 3 at 8:21 a.m. 

Woodbury

A Capital One Bank on Jericho Turnpike was robbed on December 4 at 4 p.m. by two black males armed with guns, one of whom was wearing a wig. According to detectives, two male subjects, armed with black semi-automatic handguns, entered Capital One Bank located at 8285 Jericho Turnpike and demanded money from the teller. The teller complied and the subjects fled with an undisclosed amount of cash on foot eastbound through the shopping center. Five employees and one customer were present in the bank at the time of the robbery. No injuries were reported. Subject No. 1 is described as a male white, 5’7”-5’8” tall, 35-40 years of age, thin build, 110-120 lbs., brown bushy hair, wearing a white baseball cap, large black sunglasses, zippered black jacket and blue jeans. Subject No. 2 is a male black, 6’ tall, 35-40 years of age, medium build, wearing a kangol type cap, sunglasses, two-tone jacket with tan sleeves and jeans. Detectives ask anyone with information regarding this crime to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.

Hicksville

An elderly female pedestrian was struck at 500 South Oyster Bay Road on December 7 at 4:56 p.m. by a car and pinned under it. A Nassau County Police Ambulance responded to the scene, transporting her to North Shore Plainview in traumatic arrest.

East Garden City

A motor vehicle accident with multiple injuries was reported on December 3 at 12:23 p.m. at Charles Lindburgh Boulevard and Earle Ovington Boulevard. Three people were reported aided.

Garden City

Garden City detectives arrested a female 45-year-old and a female 22-year-old for filing false police reports on November 27. The subjects had responded to Garden City Headquarters earlier in the day to state that someone had stolen their ATM card which was used to make fraudulent transactions. The subjects were arrested after the detectives’ investigation determined the report to be false.

Police stopped a male 18-year-old from Pennsylvania for driving his vehicle northbound to the left of the center double yellow lines on Franklin Avenue on December 2. Upon an investigation, the subject was arrested for driving while impaired by drugs.

Malverne-West Hempstead

Six people suffered mminor injuries and had to be transported to area hospitalson December 6 after they were involved in a three-car crash on Spruce Street in West Hempstead.

Robin Cohen, 58, of Valley Stream, was arrested on November 28 for shoplifting at the CVS store located at 640 Franklin Ave. in Franklin Square.

An unknown person shattered the window of a garage located on Third Avenue in Franklin Square on Noember 29.
