The following arrest information was supplied by several local police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate convictions.

New Hyde Park

A Dominos Pizza delivery vehicle on August 30 at 12:59 p.m. while allegedly making an illegal U-turn. There were no injuries reported.

Jericho Turnpike was closed eastbound at Lakeville Road on August 31 at 1 p.m. due to an auto accident.

A car collided with a building on August 26 at 12:06 p.m. at Hillside Avenue and Allen Street. The extent of injuries was unknown. 

Mineola

A motor vehicle accident with multiple injuries occurred in the westbound lanes of the Northern State Parkway near exit 31 on August 25 at 10:14 p.m.

Lake Success

A motor vehicle accident occurred on the eastbound side of the Northern State Parkway near exit 25, taking out the left lane on August 28 at 4:31 p.m.

Westbury

The highway patrol arrested of a Bronx man for driving while intoxicated on August 25 at 2:28 a.m. in Old Westbury. According to Police, Mychal J. Ferguson, 23, was driving a 1999 Acura 120 mph westbound on the Long Island Expressway in the vicinity of exit 40. This speed was registered by a highway patrol officer conducting traffic enforcement using a handheld laser. The officer was able to conduct a traffic stop approximately six miles later. It was determined that Ferguson was intoxicated and he was placed under arrest without incident. Ferguson is charged with first degree reckless endangerment degree, reckless driving, driving while intoxicated and several other vehicle and traffic law infractions. He was arraigned on August 25 at First District Court in Hempstead.

A motor vehicle accident occurred on the ramp to the Meadowbrook State Parkway on August 27 at 9:45 a.m., causing traffic delays. New York State Police responded to the scene and the Westbury Fire Department responded to a spill and aided victims.

An EMS accident involving a police ambulance occurred on August 29 at 2:20 a.m. A hurst tool was requested for victims who were pinned. Multiple ambulances were sent with an escort to Winthrop University Hospital.

A person’s hand became stuck in a machine at 1250 Corporate Drive on August 29 at 10:50 a.m. Emergency service personnel were sent to extract the person’s hand.

The First Squad reports the arrest of a Westbury man and a juvenile for a robbery that occurred on August 31 at 1:10 a.m. in Uniondale. According to detectives, the male victim, 36, a driver for Taxi Fiesta was entering his taxi on Liberty Street when the defendant Edgar Palacios, 20, along with the juvenile male 15, approached the vehicle. The defendants asked for a ride and the victim refused. The juvenile then strikes the victim in the face with a 9 mm pistol causing a small laceration. Both defendants fled on foot. A short time later the victim identifies the defendants to a male co-worker 31, who had responded to the area to assist him. As the second driver confronts the defendants, Palacios pointed the weapon at him. Both defendants fled again. Responding First Precinct officers quickly located Palacios near Uniondale High School and the juvenile on Birch Street. They were both placed under arrest without incident. The weapon was not recovered. Both defendants are charged with first degree robbery and third degree criminal possession of a Weapon. In addition Palacios is charged with second degree menacing. They were arraigned on August 31 at First District Court in Hempstead.

Carle Place 

Detectives are investigating a burglary that occurred in Carle Place on August 30 at 2:50 a.m. According to detectives, two unknown male subjects wearing hooded sweatshirts gained entry to the AT&T cell phone store at 333 Old Country Road by throwing a cement brick through the glass front door. The subjects then removed assorted merchandise from the store and fled in an unknown direction. Detectives request anyone with information regarding this crime to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.

Franklin Square

Crime Stoppers and the Nassau County Police Department are seeking the public’s help in identifying a subject in connection with a grand larceny which occurred in Franklin Square on May 14, at approximately 2:20 p.m. where, an unknown subject was observed inside NYCOM Cellular at 804 Hempstead Turnpike. The subject stole display cell phones from the store passing all point of purchase without making payment and fled scene in unknown direction. Crime Stoppers is asking anyone who can identify this subject or with any information about this crime to call 1-800-244-TIPS (8477). All calls will be kept confidential.

Two Roosevelt men were arrested in Franklin Square on August 27 at 1:39 a.m. in connection with a carjacking robbery. According to detectives, on Sunday, August 26 at 11:55 p.m., a 33 year old male and 22 year old female were in a 2001 Cadillac parked on Nostrand Place in Hempstead. The victims were approached by Marcus Hutchinson, 21, and Sharif Robinson, 20. The defendants displayed a handgun and ordered the victims out of the vehicle. The victims complied and the defendants entered the vehicle fleeing eastbound on Albemarle Avenue. No injuries were reported. Fifth Precinct police officers observed the vehicle traveling northbound on Franklin Avenue in Franklin Square. The defendants refused to pull over, heading eastbound on Van Buren Street eventually exiting the vehicle and running through yards. An extensive search was conducted by Fifth Precinct officers, Canine Unit, Aviation Bureau and the Bureau of Special Operations. The defendants were located on Hancock Avenue and taken into custody. A loaded .380 caliber handgun which was discarded by the defendants was located in front of a residence on Van Buren Street. The vehicle was impounded. Both defendants were charged with first degree robbery, first degree criminal use of a firearm, second degree robbery, second degree criminal possession of a weapon, third degree criminal possession of stolen property and third degree criminal possession of a weapon. Hutchinson was also charged with a second count of third degree criminal possession of a weapon. They were arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on August 28. 

A multi-car motor vehicle accident occurred at 1034 Hempstead Turnpike on August 27 at 5:48 p.m. A pin was reported, requiring tools. Eastbound Hempstead Turnpike at Randolph Street and westbound at Pacific Avenue was closed. Units from West Hempstead responded. 

Asset Forfeiture CIRRT Task Force detectives with the assistance of the Fifth Squad and the Asset Forfeiture Criminal Intelligence Analysts arrested Christopher Pettey, 28, on August 28 in connection with a burglary on Rintin Street on August 20. The defendant is also responsible for four additional burglaries, including three in Franklin Square and one in West Hempstead. Pettey is charged with five counts of second degree burglary and was arraigned on August 29 in First District Court, Hempstead.

A Great Neck man was arrested in connection with a vehicular accident that occurred on August 29 at 2:08 a.m. in Franklin Square. According to detectives, a Nassau County Police Department ambulance was operating northbound on Franklin Avenue at Gavrin Boulevard. At that time a 2004 Honda being operated by the defendant, Daniel Zucker, 21, was traveling southbound and made an abrupt left turn heading eastbound attempting to enter the parking lot of a McDonalds restaurant cutting off the ambulance. A collision occurred and the ambulance was redirected to the eastside of the intersection nearly striking several utility poles. The Honda continued on striking a 2005 Mercedes Benz waiting to exit the parking lot westbound. The occupants of the Mercedes Benz, two males ages 22 and 13 were not injured. A 19 year old male passenger in the Honda was transported to a local hospital where he was admitted. The 37 year old male Advanced Medical Technician was also removed to a local hospital where he was admitted. An investigation revealed the defendant was operating under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and he was taken into custody. He was transported to an area hospital and admitted. All injured persons are listed in stable condition. The vehicles were impounded for brake and safety inspections. Zucker was charged with driving while intoxicated and second degree vehicular assault. He will be arraigned as soon as practical.

Detectives arrested a North Bellmore woman for grand larceny that occurred in Franklin Square and Massapequa on May 2 and August 6, respectively. According to detectives, Sherriza Alfano, 50, while employed as a home health aide, beginning May 2 through May 25, at a residence on Poppy Avenue in Franklin Square, removed four checks belonging to two victims in her care, ages 83 and 84, and deposited them into her own bank account. The defendant made the checks payable to cash in the amounts of $15,000, $17,000, $4000, and $900. One victim suffered a loss of $900, while the other victim suffered no loss due to insufficient funds. On August 6, the defendant, who was employed as a health aide for a female victim, 84, at a residence on Villa Drive in Massapequa, called the victim and identified herself as someone from the IRS and told the victim she had won money. The defendant asked for her banking information, and the victim, believing her to be an agent, provided it. The defendant then transferred funds from the victim’s account in excess of $50,000 to pay for her personal credit cards. Detectives arrested Alfano on August 29 at her residence. She is being charged with second degree grand larceny, two counts of third degree grand larceny, three counts of second degree possession of a forged instrument, first degree identity theft and was arraigned on August 30 in First District Court, Hempstead.

Officers arrested a 70-year-old female from Elmont for the theft of several pieces of jewelry valued at $209 from  on August 22.

Garden City detectives are investigating an incident where a 14-year-old states he was riding his bicycle on Clinton Road by  on August 24 when an unknown male pushed him off the bicycle. The suspect then fled the scene by riding the bicycle north on Clinton Road.

On August 26 at 2:37 a.m., officers observed a vehicle traveling north on Clinton Road without its headlights on. Upon stopping the vehicle, he determined that the operator and three occupants in the vehicle were 15 year old youths from Garden City. The operator was cited for unlicensed operation. In addition, all of the youths were released to their families

At approximately 5:35 a.m. on August 28, a female pedestrian from Lakeview was walking to the Malverne Train station when she was approached by an unknown male suspect who . The female victim was able to get the suspect to release her by yelling and flailing her arms. The victim did continue to the Malverne Police Department, where she reported the incident. The victim did not sustain any physical injuries. The suspect was described as a male black, approximately 20 years old, 5 ft. 6 inches tall, medium build, wearing a white sleeveless T-shirt and a red doo-rag. Anyone with any information is urged to contact the Malverne Police or Nassau County Detectives who are investigating.

 on Hempstead Avenue in West Hempstead was burglarized between August 25-26.

Several items, including a GPS unit, were stolen from three cars – two parked on Howard Avenue and one on Hawthorne Street – in West Hempstead between August 25-26. One of the victims on Howard Avenue reported that his car was left unlocked while the other says his vehicle was locked.
