Crimes Nearby: Forcible Touching, Prostitution and Marijuana

A look at crimes in the towns surrounding New Hyde Park.

The following arrest information was supplied by several local police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate convictions. 

New Hyde Park

Detectives from the Third Precinct have arrested a Seaford man and New Hyde Park woman on charges of a burglary that occurred in Carle Place on Wednesday.

Mineola

An Elmont man employed as a case worker for troubled teenagers at Mineola non-profit Family and Children’s Association was arrested Thursday morning on charges of stealing more than $25,000 in Medicaid funds, according to theNassau County District Attorney’s Office.

Williston Park

A car overturned on Shelter Rock Road and Old Searingtown Road on March 8 at 9:08 a.m. There was no pin reported and the occupants were able to exit the vehicle.

Roslyn

A car overturned on the westbound side of the Long Island Expressway at Willis Avenue on March 3 at 9:21 a.m. The driver was removed from the vehicle by emergency personnel. 

Roslyn Heights

A possible DWI was reported at 121 Roslyn Road on March 3 at 9:43 p.m. An ambulance was requested for 2-3 persons aided. 

Carle Place

A Wyandanch man and woman were arrested on robbery charges that occurred on Wednesday, March 6 at 8:20 p.m. According to detectives, the defendant Shean O Wills, 23, did drive the co-defendant Abigail Torres, 18, and began arguing with a 18 year old female victim on the corner of Broadway and Stonehinge Lane. During the argument Abigail slashed the victim on the left side of her face with a razor blade causing a laceration. Torres then took the victim’s cell phone and left in the car driven by Wills. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. After an investigation the defendants were located at their residence and placed under arrest. Wills is charged with first degree robbery and fourth degree criminal facilitation. Torres is charged with first degree robbery, first degree assault and fourth degree possession of a dangerous weapon. Both were arraigned on March 7 at First District Court in Hempstead.

Westbury

Crime Stoppers is seeking the public’s help in identifying a subject in connection with a forgery which occurred between Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at 1 p.m. and Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013 at approximately 11 a.m., the victim’s business checks were fraudulently cashed. The unknown subject was observed inside two different Chase bank locations within Queens, NY. The above subject cashed two checks in the amount of $8,000. Crime Stoppers is asking anyone who can identify this subject or with any information about this crime to call the toll free hotline at 1-800-244-TIPS (8477).

Nassau County Police arrested a Buffalo woman in Westbury on Friday, March 1, at 9:40 p.m. According to detectives, an undercover investigation determined that Genine Powell, 22, did offer to engage in a sexual act for an undisclosed amount of money while at the Pines Motor Lodge at 101 Taylor Ave. Powell was taken into custody without incident. The defendant was charged with Prostitution and was arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on March 2.

A car accident occurred on the Meadowbrook Parkway at Merchants Concourse on March 5 at 11:53 a.m. Units reported 2 patients and a second ambulance was requested to the scene. 

Hicksville

A car over turned at 26 Genesee St. on March 6 at 7:13 a.m. An entrapment was initially reported followed by a person being out of the car and on the ground. A second ambulance was requested along with two police cars.

Garden City

A joint investigation between GCPD detectives and NCPD Narcotics detectives resulted in the arrest of a male 21-year-old and female 19-year-old, both from Elmont, for the sale of one ounce of alleged marijuana on March 4. Both subjects were charged with criminal sale of marijuana.

As a result of a traffic stop investigation on Stewart Avenue, Garden City detectives arrested a male 22-year-old from Elmont for not wearing a seatbelt and possession of marijuana on March 5.

West Hempstead

A female pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on Hempstead Turnpike in West Hempstead early Friday evening.

A West Hempstead man was arrested on charges he forcibly touched a female in the Nassau Coliseum parking lot after the Islanders game on Sunday night.

Nassau County police officers arrested a West Hempstead spa worker for prostitution Tuesday, bringing the arrest total to 11 for 2013.
