Crimes Nearby: Gas Station Thieves Caught, Cashier Arrested and DWI

A look at crimes in the towns surrounding New Hyde Park.

The following arrest information was supplied by several local police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate convictions.


Garden City Park

Nassau County Police have arrested two Queens Village men for a strong of gas station robberies in March 2013 around Nassau County, including one in Garden City Park.

Roslyn Heights

A car fire occurred on the eastbound side of the Long Island Expressway at exit 38 on December 10 at 6:45 p.m.

Carle Place

Nassau County Police arrested a Brooklyn woman for a grand larceny that occurred in Carle Place on Dec. 21, 2011 at 10:10 a.m. According to detectives, Shevondia Lewis, 27, deposited a fraudulent check in the amount of $7,900.26, drawn on the account of a Wells Fargo customer, into her Wells Fargo checking account. She then proceeded to withdraw the money in smaller increments at various Wells Fargo locations throughout Nassau County. Bureau of Special Operations police officers arrested Lewis on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013 at her residence. She is being charged third degree grand larceny, second degree possession of a forged instrument and was arraigned on Thursday, Dec. 12 in First District Court, Hempstead.

Westbury

Police are searching for a suspect who, on Thursday, August 22, at approximately 7:52 p.m., was observed inside of Dollar Tree located 1057 Old Country Road, Westbury. While present in the store the subject announced that he was robbing the store, and that he had a gun. The subject then ordered the victim to the rear of the store, and demanded that the store safe be opened. The subject stole an amount of cash from the safe, and fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction. The subject is described as male Hispanic, 5’0”tall, wearing a red shirt, baseball cap, and gray shorts. Woodbury

A car accident occurred on NY Route 135 on December 12 at 5:31 a.m. with one person aided.

Hicksville

Police are searching for two subjects wanted in connection with a petit larceny which occurred in Hicksville, New York. On Sunday, November 10, at approximately 2 p.m., the subjects were observed inside Leung How Kitchen located at 424 South Oyster Bay Road, Hicksville. While present in the restaurant the subjects acting in concert with each other, did steal a tip jar from the counter containing approximately $100 in cash. The subjects fled the scene in an unknown direction. Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a suspect wanted in connection with a petit larceny which occurred in Hicksville on Friday, October 4, at approximately 7:36 p.m. According to police, the subject was observed inside CVS located at 202 West Old Country Road, Hicksville. While present in the store the subject did steal 25 assorted skin care items valued at $585.98, and exited the store passing all points of purchase without making payment for the items. The subject fled the scene in an unknown direction. Franklin Square

On December 4 at 7:10 p.m., a victim left her wallet at Dunkin' Donuts at Hempstead Turnpike and discovered it was no longer there when she went back to get it. Upon reviewing video surveillance, the owner observed an unknown female pick it up off the floor and leave.

On December 5 at 3:25 a.m., Erick R. Schutz, of Franklin Square, was arrested and charged with DWI on Cathedral Avenue.

Garden City

On December 7, officers arrested a cashier from Lord & Taylor for the theft of $600 from a register on Dec. 7 and $420 from a register on Dec. 5. The cashier, an 18-year-old from Hempstead, was charged with two counts of petit larceny.

On December 9, officers arrested two women, aged 54 and 25, both from Elmont, for the theft of $622 in merchandise from Lord & Taylor. The 54-year-old was also charged with possession of burglary tools for using scissors to remove security tags from the stolen merchandise.
