Crimes Nearby: Injured Infant, Low-Flying Aircraft and Counterfeit Currency

A look at crimes in the towns surrounding New Hyde Park.

The following arrest information was supplied by several local police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate convictions.

Mineola

Police responded to a call of a baby who reportedly had a lamp fall on its head on February 12 at 10:48 a.m. at an apartment at 100 Clinton Ave. The child was reported to be conscious but severely bleeding.

A police car was reportedly involved in an accident at Jericho Turnpike and White Road on February 14 at 6:53 p.m.

Williston Park

Police received a call of a low-flying aircraft on February 13 at 1:51 p.m. A helicopter was sent to investigate.

Westbury

A call for officer assistance was made on the westbound side of the Northern State Parkway near exit 32 on February 13 at 5:02 p.m.

A pedestrian was struck at Post Avenue and Union Avenue on February 13 at 8:47 p.m. The Westbury Fire Department transported a 29 year old male to Nassau University Medical Center who was hit by a car going about 3 mph sustaining minor injuries.

A police officer was reportedly injured at King Street and Brush Hollow Road with a laceration to the hand on February 15 at 9:56 p.m.

Hicksville

Nassau County Police conducted an investigation at 90 Division Ave. of an nature pertaining to controlled substances on February 13 at 10:38 a.m. An additional unit and supervisor were requested tot he scene.

An accident involving a car and a school bus occurred at 638 South Oyster Bay Road on February 14 at 8:40 a.m. There were no students on board at the time.

A fire broke out in an attached garage at 8 East End Ave. on February 15 at 5:07 a.m. The fire was contained at about 5:25 a.m.

Franklin Square

A motor vehicle accident occurred on the eastbound side of the Southern State Parkway near exit 16 on February 11 at 10:56 a.m. The vehicle was reportedly flipped over onto its side. There was no entrapment reported. A 29 year old male victim was transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. 

Garden City

The department is investigating an incident at Lord & Taylor where a female subject returned merchandise on February 6 that was purchased at another Lord & Taylor store where seven counterfeit $100 bills were used to pay for the merchandise.

As a result of ongoing investigations, Garden City detectives arrested a male 22-year-old from Uniondale at a Garden City location for felony sale and felony possession of ecstasy. In addition, a male 38-year-old from Westbury and a female 26-year-old from Freeport were arrested for felony sale and felony possession of crack cocaine.

West Hempstead

Javier Espinales, 21, of West Hempstead, was arrested on Feb. 8 at the intersection of Hempstead Turnpike and Herman Boulevard in Franklin Square for DWI.

An unknown suspect stole tires and rims off of a vehicle parked on Jackson Avenue in West Hempstead between Feb. 4 and Feb. 5.

An Oceanside woman was arrested Thursday for using forged prescriptions to obtain Vicodin pills from the CVS Pharmacy in West Hempstead.
