Crimes Nearby: Larcenies, Barricaded Man and NYPD Officer Arrested

A look at crimes in the towns surrounding New Hyde Park.

The following arrest information was supplied by several local police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate convictions.

New Hyde Park
Reports of a barricaded man on Executive Drive in North New Hyde Park prompted a response from the Nassau County Police Department Wednesday night.

Roslyn Heights
A brush fire occurred on the LIRR tracks near the Roslyn station on August 4 at about 7:39 p.m.

Old Westbury
The westbound lanes of Jericho Turnpike were closed at Powell Avenue for a car accident investigation on August 3 at 6:42 p.m.

Jericho
Two men were arrested for larceny in Jericho at 8:35 p.m. on August 8. According to officers, Feliks M. Veyberman, 48, and Anatoliy Mitrofanov, 50, both of Brooklyn were observed entering the CVS located at 417 North Broadway. They allegedly placed the proceeds (value approximately $462.00) into a duffel bag, exited the store without paying for the items and then attempted to leave the scene in a 2013 Nissan Altima. Officers approached the defendants in the parking lot and placed the defendants into custody without incident. The investigation revealed each defendant was in possession of a gravity knife. Veyberman and Mitrofanov are each charged with petit larceny, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of stolen property and possession of burglar tools. They were arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on August 9.

Hicksville
A Hicksville man was arrested in Mineola on Wednesday, August 7 at 11 a.m. According to detectives, on Monday, July 22, 2013 an 18 year old male victim was at Prince Street and East Old Country Road in Hicksville when he was approached by Carlos Uribe-Mejia, 18. Both men have reportedly had an ongoing dispute. Uribe-Mejia struck the victim in the face causing minor injuries. An unknown male Hispanic not yet apprehended then appeared and removed the victim’s cell phone and wallet from his pants pocket. The males then fled the scene in an unknown direction. The victim refused medical attention. Uribe-Mejia was located at 252 Old Country Road where he was appearing in court for an unrelated charge and taken into custody. Uribe-Mejia was charged with second degree robbery and appeared at First District Court in Hempstead on Thursday, August 8.

Floral Park
The Fourth Squad is investigating a robbery that occurred in South Floral Park on Friday, August 9 at 8:10 p.m. According to detectives, a 20-year old male victim was walking on Louis Avenue when five to six male black subjects in a dark colored auto stopped behind him. Two subjects then exited the vehicle and pushed the victim to the ground and punched him on the left side of his head while demanding hi cell phone. Subject one was wearing a doo-rag type cap and subject two was holding a black knife. Both subjects then fled on foot with the cell phone. The victim was transported to a local hospital by a Nassau County Ambulance and was treated for lacerations to his lower back. Detectives request anyone with information regarding this crime to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.

Garden City
On August 2 there were two reported larcenies from vehicles parked at two residences on Maxwell Road. An iPod was removed from one vehicle and an iPod and loose change was removed from the other vehicle.

On August 3 officers stopped a vehicle on Franklin Avenue at Ninth Street for no registration and inspection stickers on the front windshield. The vehicle was impounded and the driver, a female 30-year-old from Elmont, was cited for driving with a suspended license, unregistered auto, uninspected auto, switched license plates and several equipment violations.

On August 4 officers responded to a report of an accident on Meadow Street where a vehicle struck two trees and a fire hydrant. Witnesses state that the operator of the vehicle fled the scene on foot in a westerly direction. Police searched the area and discovered the subject, a male 23-year-old from Hempstead, on Cedar Place in Garden City. As a result of the investigation, the operator was arrested for DWI (.12 percent blood alcohol content), unlicensed operation and leaving the scene of an accident.

West Hempstead
A New York City police officer was arrested early Saturday morning for DWI after allegedly driving on the wrong side of the Southern State Parkway and hitting five other cars.
