Crimes Nearby: Man Admits to 13-Year-Old's Murder

Eight crime stories making headlines nearby this week.

Robert Golub, convicted killer of his 13-year-old neighbor, Kelly Tinyes, reportedly confessed his crime last month at a hearing.

Golub, 46, was convicted in 1990 of beating, sexually assaulting, and strangling Tinyes, who lived on his street in Valley Stream. Police said her body was found in a sleeping bag hidden in Golub's basement under the stairs.

The man convicted of killing a motivational speaker from Woodmere will have his case retried, Manhattan prosecutors decided Thursday.

Cops: Identity Thief Stole $14K from Bank Account

Cops are searching for a woman they say withdrew almost $14,000 that wasn't hers from a Woodmere bank in July.

According to Nassau County Police, the subject withdrew $13,800 from a victim's bank account at JP Morgan Chase Banking. She made three separate withdrawals in Woodmere, Manhattan, and the Bronx, cops reported. Click here for the full story.

Cops Searching for Capital One Bank Robber

According to police, a man presented a robbery demand note to a teller at Capital One Bank, located at 356 North Central Avenue in Valley Stream. The teller complied and gave the subject an undetermined amount of cash, cops said. The subject fled north on foot on North Central Avenue and then east on Milford Street, police said. Click here for the full story.
