Crimes Nearby: Pregnant Woman Rescued, Child Struck and Underage Alcohol Sales

A look at crimes in the towns surrounding New Hyde Park.

The following arrest information was supplied by several local police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate convictions.

A pregnant woman became trapped in a car following a motor vehicle accident on May 2 at 6:36 p.m. Firefighters from the responded to the accident with aid.

Floral Park

A child pedestrian was reportedly struck at 34 Holland Avenue on April 28 at3:56 p.m.

Westbury

A propane leak was reported on 54 Rolling Hill Lane on May 1 at 7:43 p.m. Units on the scene reported that the tank had a broken valve.

Carle Place

An overturned car was reported on April 30 at 2:02 p.m. on Albany Avenue with wires down.

Emergency personnel responded to a car entrapment on Glen Cove Road and Westbury Avenue on May 1 at 8:51 a.m. Injuries were unknown at the time of report. 

Garden City detectives arrested a 39-year-man from Bellerose on April 25 for opening two credit cards in a resident’s name in February and for using the cards to make unauthorized purchases in excess of $13,000. He was arrested and charged with identity theft and grand larceny.

A vehicle was stopped on Meadow Street traveling the wrong way on Meadow Place. Upon a DMV check, it was determined that the vehicle was wanted for being stolen at gunpoint in Hempstead approximately three weeks prior. Upon further investigation, the subject was not charged with the robbery but was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine, driving on a one-way street, backing unsafely and unlicensed operation.

Malverne-West Hempstead

Two teenage boys were reportedly  by a group of males while they were walking to the bus stop in Lakeview. According to police, the robbery occurred near Tanglewood Road around 10 p.m. on May 3. The two victims, ages 14 and 17, allegedly had their jewelry, sneakers and cell phones taken by a group of four or five unknown males.

A tractor-trailer took down a pole with wires on Woodfield Road in Lakeview on May 3 at about 2:56 p.m. The pole then became stuck on the top of the trailer.

Nassau County POP/PEP officers conducted a Project 21 detail  on April 25 at West Hempstead Beverage in West Hempstead and the Getty gas station in Franklin Square. An undercover Police Agent under the age of 21 entered both convenience stores and at each one, purchased an alcoholic beverage without being asked to present identification of age, according to police. This resulted in the arrests of Nicholas Milbank, of Elmont, an employee at the Getty station, and Ismael Martinez-Munoz, of Hempstead, who was working at West Hempstead Beverage.
