Crimes Nearby: Prostitution Arrests, False Reporting and Burglaries

A look at crimes in the towns surrounding New Hyde Park.

The following arrest information was supplied by several local police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate convictions.

Mineola
Additional burglary charges were levied against Morris Santaniello of the Bronx by the Long Beach Police Department. Santaniello was already being charged with four counts of felony burglary for allegedly breaking into several apartments in the Birchwood Court complex in Mineola.

Albertson
A gas leak was reported at 945 Willis Ave. on April 18 at 1:42 p.m. Police and fire department personnel responded to the scene.

Jericho
Police are investigating a case of falsely reporting an incident that occurred in Jericho on April 19 at 9:52 a.m. According to detectives, an unknown caller dialed 911 and reported there were bombs at 200 Jericho Quadrangle. Second Precinct police officers, canine unit and emergency services unit responded to the location. The building was evacuated and an extensive search conducted. No devices were located and the building was eventually reopened. No injuries were reported. Detectives request anyone with information regarding this crime to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.

Woodbury
A three-car accident occurred on the eastbound lanes of the Northern State Parkway at Route 135 on April 15 at 5:57 p.m. The accident took out the left lane causing delays back to Jericho.

Hicksville
A burglary was reportedly interrupted at 21 Acre Lane on April 14 at 5:08 p.m. Two suspects were detained at Acre and Acadia.
A basement fire occurred in a two-story private dwelling at 12 Murray Road on April 16 at 6:48 p.m.

Bethpage
Police made two arrests for two arrests for criminal possession of a controlled substance on April 19 at 2:43 p.m. According to detectives, 911 received a call for suspicious male changing license plates on a blue Dodge Caravan on Floral and Farmers Avenues in Bethpage. Upon arrival, police observed two males inside a blue Caravan with a Florida license plate fitting the above description.  Second Precinct police officers conducted a vehicle stop and as the officer approached the vehicle and asked for identification the driver sped off. Officers followed the above mentioned vehicle as it drove recklessly northbound Stewart Avenue and onto Route 107 finally stopping in front of 140 Stewart Ave. Both subjects then exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.  Officers gave chase and were able to apprehend and place under arrest Daniel S. Micalski, 36, of West Babylon and Joseph H. Wolfgang, 43, of Bethpage. Subsequent to a lawful arrest, 1 Xanax and 4 Hydrocodone pills were found on defendant Wolfgang, while defendant Michalski (the driver of the automobile) admitted to having 25 Hydrocodone pills without a valid prescription. Michalski is being charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, first degree reckless endangerment, registration of motor vehicle with improper plates, reckless driving, operating without insurance and several other vehicle and traffic laws. Wolfgang is being charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. They will be arraigned on April 20 at First District Court in Hempstead.

Franklin Square
Police apprehended a suspect at 180 Grange Street on April 16 at 12:23 p.m. Fifth Precinct units had pursued the suspect on foot after the suspect fled from a yard at 179 Rintin St.

Garden City
With cooperation and assistance from Community National Bank personnel, a 49-year-old female bank manager from Jamaica was arrested on April 12 for the theft of $3,800 from a customer’s account. The bank is located on Franklin Avenue.
The driver of a vehicle that passed a red light southbound on Roslyn Road on to eastbound Old Country Road was arrested on April 13. The driver, a male 24-year-old from Lindenhurst, was charged with aggravated DWI (.20 percent blood alcohol content), passing a red light, a lane violation, defective tail lights and uninsured operation.

West Hempstead
Four women were arrested at motels in West Hempstead and E. Garden City Monday after allegedly offering to engage in sexual acts with undercover Nassau County detectives for money.
