Crimes Nearby: Resisting Arrest, Oxycodone Possession and Gas Leak

A look at crimes in the towns surrounding New Hyde Park.

The following arrest information was supplied by several local police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate convictions.

New Hyde Park

Nassau County Police responded to the scene of a motor vehicle accident with injuries on the Long Island Expressway near exit 33 in Lake Success on May 22 at 11:09 p.m. The aided was removed with a traumatic arrest reported.

A Mineola man was arrested on May 25 after allegedly breaking a store window at the  at 2399 Jericho Turnpike in Garden City Park at 12:45 a.m. Harpreet Singh, 24, also allegedly spit at officers and kicked one while being arrested. 

Williston Park

A gas leak was reported at the Capital One Bank on 422 Hillside Ave. on May 24 at 4:48 p.m. The Garden City Park Fire Department reported a strong odor of natural gas in the building, which was evacuated and a call for assistance placed to the gas company.

Westbury

Police reported an apprehension on Grant Street on May 22 at 10:47 p.m. which may be related to a previous request for the fire marshal, which was made for an unknown location.

Hicksville

Smoke was reported at a one-story commercial building at 10 West Cherry St. on May 23 at 6:22 p.m. The situation was reported under control at 6:24 p.m. as smoke was from the workers in the building.

Garden City

A home on 21 Kildare Road was struck by lighting on May 21 at about 11:18 a.m.

A partial  was reported at 623 Stewart Ave. on May 21 at about 1:20 p.m.

On May 18 at 12:54 a.m., officers responded to a . The investigation at the scene determined a 2003 Ford, operated by a 55-year-old Mineola woman, was stopped in the northbound lanes when it was struck by a 2005 Toyota, operated by a 28-year-old Island Park man, that had just turned onto Washington Avenue from westbound Old Country Road. The driver of the Toyota then put the vehicle in reverse, crossing Old Country Road, causing it to strike an apartment building on Birchwood Court. There was no apparent damage to the building. The driver of the Ford, who sustained a neck injury, and her passenger, a 20-year-old female, who sustained a back injury, were transported to Winthrop Hospital by ambulance. The driver of the Toyota was not injured and was arrested for aggravated DWI (.22% BAC) and uninsured operation.

A Garden City detective was conducting an investigation in Parking Field 7S on May 19 that resulted in the arrest of a 24-year-old Garden City man for two counts of possession of a controlled substance (Oxycodone pills) and a 30-year-old Garden City man for two counts of possession of a controlled substance (Xanax pills and Oxycodone).

Malverne-West Hempstead

Two workers  at the West 130 construction site in West Hempstead. The men fell approximately 25 feet to the ground and were both injured. Details of what happened were not immediately known. They were transported to  in Mineola.

A woman was seriously injured on the afternoon of May 25 when her car  on Woodfield Road in West Hempstead. The NICE bus, which was carrying roughly 15 passengers aboard, was stopped at the corner of Elm Street when the sedan slammed into the rear. According to one source at the scene, the woman may have been texting while driving when the accident occurred.
