A look at crimes in the towns surrounding New Hyde Park.

The following arrest information was supplied by several local police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate convictions.

Garden City Park
A fire was reported in a private dwelling at 130 Sycamore Drive on April 27 at 8:14 p.m.

Mineola
A pursuit was reported on Hillside Avenue and Foch Boulevard with a suspect being placed in custody on April 28 at 5:08 p.m. No other information was available.

Roslyn Heights
Police have arrested a Hicksville man in connection with a robbery of a TD Bank at 111 Mineola Ave. on February 17. According to detectives, Evan Kerpen, 34, entered the TD Bank located at 111 Mineola Ave. and passed a demand note to the teller. The male teller, 33 years of age, gave an undetermined amount of U.S. currency to the subject who then fled on foot out the front door towards the rear of the bank. He is charged with first and third-degree robbery and was arraigned on April 30 at First District Court in Hempstead.

Westbury
A robbery occurred at 1 p.m. on April 28 where according to detectives, a 38 year old male victim was approached by an unknown male black who told the victim to meet him in the rear of the Park Avenue School at 955 Park Ave. so he could buy an iPhone. The subject is described as being light skinned, thin build, and curly hair. When the victim met the suspect he was also met by a second subject described as being male black, dark skinned, stocky build and 20 years of age. Both subjects then blocked and prevented the victim from leaving and began punching the victim in the face causing him to fall to the ground. They then removed an undetermined amount of US currency and his cell phone. They both fled on foot in an unknown direction. The victim was transported by a Nassau County Ambulance to a nearby local hospital and treated for contusions of his face. Detectives request anyone with information regarding this crime to contact the Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.

A Bayside man was arrested in Westbury on Wednesday, May 1 at 8:17 p.m. According to detectives, Agostino Romano, 62, and a 60-year old male victim drove to Best Buy at 1100 Old Country Road in a 2011 Suzuki. A verbal altercation occurred while the two men were in the vehicle in the parking lot. The victim exited the car and started to walk towards the store. Romano then placed the vehicle into drive and struck the victim knocking him to the ground. The victim sustained minor injuries but refused medical assistance at the scene. Romano was taken into custody without incident. The defendant was charged with second degree assault and was arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on May 2.

Hicksville
A fire was reported at 126 East Marie St. on May 3 at 11:27 a.m. The fire was reported to have been placed under control at 11:33 a.m.

Police arrested Ricaldo Michel, 17, on robbery charges for allegedly taking two cell phones from two different victims on February 26 and March 13.  According to police, on February 26 at 3 p.m., while in front of Hicksville High School Michel along with a juvenile defendant (already apprehended) removed an iPhone 5 from a male victim’s pants pocket. On March 13 at 6:15 p.m., while at the basketball courts of Cantiague Park, Michel and another co-defendant (not yet apprehended) removed a male victim’s Apple iPhone from his sweatshirt pocket. Michel was arrested on Friday, May 3 at his residence. He is being charged with two counts of third-degree robbery and was arraigned on Saturday, May 4 in First District Court in Hempstead.

Bethpage
A Westbury woman was arrested for a robbery that occurred on April 29, at 2:30 a.m. According to detectives, Karma N Kargl, 34, entered into the 7-Eleven Store at 4220 Hempstead Turnpike and placed a box of donuts on the counter in front of the male sales clerk before displaying a knife and demanding money. The sales clerk being fearful then stepped into a rear storage room at which time the defendant grabbed the box of donuts and exited the store and was seen fleeing in a blue sedan east on Hempstead Turnpike. A police investigation led detectives to her residence at which time she was placed into police custody without incident. There were no injuries reported. Kargl is charged with first-degree robbery and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. She was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on April 30.

Garden City
A 27-year-old male from Mineola was arrested on April 24 for driving his vehicle on Old Country Road at a very low rate of speed and impeding traffic, while driving in and out of his lane. He was subsequently arrested for felony DWI (.17 percent blood alcohol content) due to a prior DWI arrest, felony aggravated unlicensed operation, two lane violations and uninsured operation.

A 17-year-old female from East Williston was issued an appearance ticket on April 27 for a loud and disorderly party involving numerous youths at a residence owned by her parent on Lincoln Street.

West Hempstead
On April 27 at 11 a.m., Stephen Gateson, 37, of Franklin Square, was arrested for shoplifting at Stop & Shop, located at 50 Cherry Valley Ave. in West Hempstead.
