Crimes Nearby: Stabbing, Barricaded Suspect and Dead Body

The following arrest information was supplied by several local police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate convictions.

New Hyde Park

A car accident with multiple injuries was reported on the Long Island Expressway near the New Hyde Park exit on October 14 at 7:25 p.m. The Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the aided to North Shore-Manhasset Hospital.

Garden City Park

Two Hispanic males reportedly robbed a couple on Hillside Drive and James Street on October 13 at 1:53 p.m. at gunpoint before fleeing in a black Honda Civic.

Mineola

A car accident occurred at East Jericho Turnpike and Jay Court on October 13 at 7:11 p.m. Injuries were reported at the scene. The Mineola Volunteer Ambulance and Fire Department responded for smoke coming from the car.

Roslyn Heights

A robbery occurred on Roslyn Road on October 13 at 1:30 p.m. According to detectives, a 36-yard old male victim was walking on Roslyn Road when a black Honda Civic with tinted windows stopped in front of his location near Jean Street. A male Hispanic, wearing a blue Nike sweatshirt, blue Nike bandana exited from the passenger side of the vehicle. He reportedly grabbed the victim’s arm while displaying a black handgun and demanded the victim’s property. The second subject is described as a male, wearing a dark t-shirt and blue jeans. Both subjects fled in the vehicle southbound on Roslyn Road with the victim’s wedding ring, lottery tickets and a gallon of milk. There were no injuries reported. Detectives request anyone with information regarding the above crime to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.

A bomb threat was reported at Roslyn High School on October 17 at 1:20 p.m. A message was reportedly written on a wall regarding a bomb set to go off that day. The threat followed one the previous day at the Roslyn Middle School.

Roslyn

A car accident with a car fire and serious injury was reported on October 19 at 8:23 a.m. near exit 39 of the westbound lane of the Long Island Expressway. The accident was cleared from the highway at 9:40 a.m.

Police found a dead body in room 229 of the Claremont Hotel at 1:25 p.m. on October 19. There was no cause of death reported.

Manhasset

A Nassau Police Officer was killed in a motor vehicle accident which occurred on October 18 at 4:58 a.m. Police have one of the drivers involved in the accident in custody with charges pressed against him.

A Woodmere man was arrested for menacing that allegedly occurred on October 16 at 10:10 am in Manhasset. According to detectives, the victim, a 50 year old male Code Enforcement Officer for the Village of Manhasset, while in the performance of his duties in Parking Lot No. 4, located at Colonial Parkway and Locust Street, was forced, on two occasions, to jump between parked cars after a vehicle being driven by the defendant, Andrew Bass, 59, allegedly intentionally accelerated towards the him. The victim, who recorded Bass’s license plate number, recognized him from a prior incident in the same parking lot where a ticket was issued to Bass and ensuing threats were made to his life. After a follow up investigation by detectives, the defendant was contacted and Bass responded to the Third Precinct where he was placed under arrest. Bass is charged with second degree menacing, second degree reckless endangerment and second degree obstructing governmental administration. He will be arraigned on October 17 in First District Court in Hempstead.

North Hills

The left and HOV lanes of the westbound Long Island Expressway in the vicinity of exit 34 (New Hyde Park Road) are closed due to an MVA on October 14 at 7:06 p.m. and reopened at 7:44 p.m.

Westbury

A stabbing was reported on Westbury Avenue on October 14 at 1:49 p.m. on October 14.

Carle Place

A car fire was reported on the southbound Meadowbrook Parkway near the intersection of Old Country Road on October 14 at 8:51 p.m. The Carle Place Fire Department responded tot he scene. Traffic delays were reported in the area.

Police were involved in a vehicle chase involving a black Jeep on the Meadowbrook Parkway on October 16 at 8:34 a.m. The Jeep allegedly refused to pull over and tried to run the cruiser off the highway before it was lost westbound on Hempstead Turnpike, last seen making a right turn onto Glenn Curtiss Boulevard. The driver was described as a white male wearing a jacket and tie. A police unit later located the Jeep in front of Rexon Plaza in Uniondale at 8:51 a.m. and took the suspect into custody at 8:53 a.m.

A car overturned in the northbound lane of the Meadowbrook Parkway near the Northern State Parkway on October 18. Police reported at 3:58 a.m. that the vehicle had been turned upright and requested an ambulance for one minor injury.

Hicksville

A car accident occurred at 195 Broadway between Sears and Red Lobster on October 13 at 1:21 p.m. EMS was requested to the scene.

Franklin Square

Police responded to a report of an armed Hispanic male robbing a store at 970 Hempstead Turnpike on October 18 at 2:09 p.m. Hempstead Turnpike was shut down. The suspect was thought to have robbed the store previously. The store was reportedly clear at 2:20 p.m. but the basement and tunnel had yet to be searched. Hempstead Turnpike was reopened at 2:37 p.m.

Garden City

Upon their investigation, Garden City detectives arrested a male 30-year-old from Brooklyn for the theft of six designer handbags from Lord & Taylor totaling $1,738 in value. The items were reported stolen on Oct. 10.

A tractor trailer from Hackensack, NJ struck the Nassau Boulevard overpass by Merillon Avenue

Officer Reilly arrested a female 26-year-old from Hempstead for the larceny of several items totaling $986 in value from Lord & Taylor. She was also charged with possession of burglary tools for using a pair of scissors to remove sensor tags from the merchandise on October 15.
