Crimes Nearby: Stolen ATM Macine, Harassment and Illegal Massage

A look at crimes in the towns surrounding New Hyde Park.

The following arrest information was supplied by several local police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate convictions.

Mineola

A fire occurred in an apartment at 267 Mineola Blvd. on January 9 at 11:14 a.m. The cause of the fire was determined to be related to cigarettes in the second floor apartment.

Albertson

A grand larceny occurred on January 10 between 3 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. in Albertson. According to detectives, while on routine patrol a Third Precinct police officer observed that an exterior ATM machine located at the Milk N Things at 1181 Willis Ave. was missing from the side of the building. The ATM contained an unknown amount of US currency. Detectives request anyone with information regarding this crime to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.  All callers will remain anonymous. 

New Hyde Park

A fire occurred at 16 Baxter Ave. on January 6 at 6:07 p.m.

Carle Place

Glen Cove Road was closed in both directions between Jericho Turnpike and Westbury Avenue on January 9 at 10:29 a.m. due to a water main break at Glen Cove Road and the Northern State Parkway. It was reopened at 12:15 p.m.

Westbury

A fire occurred in a garage and second floor of a two-story split-level home at 61 Waterbury Lane on January 5 at 1:53 p.m. The Hazmat team was also called to the scene for a leaking acetylene tank in the building.

A fire occurred at 251 Monitor St. on January 9 at 12:11 a.m.

A car overturned on the Meadowbrook State Parkway after a head-on collision on January 11 at 1:51 p.m. 

Old Westbury

All westbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway were closed at exit 40 due to a car accident with fire on January 7 at 5:14 a.m. One lane was reopened at 5:40 a.m. All lanes were reopened at 6:50 a.m.

Woodbury

A car overturned at Woodbury Road and Winthrop Drive on January 10 at 9:59 a.m.

Hicksville

Burning live wires were reportedly downed at 2 Stanley St. on January 5 at 9:45 p.m.

A fire occurred in the basement of 45 Harrison Ave. on January 11 at 12:02 p.m. Two victims of smoke inhalation were reported at the scene.

Garden City

On January 2 officers observed a vehicle speeding (50 MPH) on Stewart Avenue and when he attempted to stop the vehicle with lights and sirens, it sped away. The vehicle was eventually stopped in the vicinity of Merchants Concourse. The driver, a 69-year-old woman from Westbury, was charged with failing to stop for an emergency vehicle, speeding and unsafe lane usage.

On January 3 a Garden City detective and Officer Graber arrested a 19-year-old from Garden City for harassment. The victim, an employee of a Franklin Avenue restaurant, states that the subject punched him in the face causing swelling and pain.

West Hempstead

Two Queens Women were arrested Thursday afternoon for allegedly performing illegal massages in West Hempstead.
