Electrical Fire on First Avenue Home Friday

Exposed wires at New Hyde Park home reportedly cause of fire.

New Hyde Park Firefighters responded to a reported electrical fire at a home on First Avenue on Friday afternoon.

At about 1:54 p.m., an outside electrical outlet with exposed wires caught fire at 1002 First Ave., running up the back of the building. The home is part of a joined dual-family dwelling. The fire was initially believed to have begun inside the home in the kitchen before the exposed wires were discovered in the rear of the home. The fire was extinguished shortly after 2 p.m.

According to New Hyde Park Fire Chief John Waldron, firefighters responded to the alert before any significant damage could be done to the building. There were no injuries reported at the scene and the occupants were able to return to the home.
