New Hyde Park Firefighter Killed in Motorcycle Accident

Former resident Robert Francis Miner III dies in collision with tractor-trailer in Newport News, Va.

A former New Hyde Park Volunteer Firefighter was killed Thursday in a motorcycle accident in Virginia, according to reports.

According to confirmed reports, 25-year old Robert Francis Miner III died after his Honda motorcycle collided with a tractor-trailer in Newport News, VA.

The Newport News Daily Press reports that police state that Miner was travelling southbound on Warwick Avenue when he clipped the back of a northbound tractor trailer while making a left turn off of Warwick onto Enterprise Boulevard. Police ere called to the scene at 6:15 a.m.

Miner was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and pronounced dead at 6:57 a.m.

Miner grew up in New Hyde Park attending New Hyde Park Road School and then New Hyde Park Memorial High School where he graduated.

He joined the New Hyde Park Fire Department in July of 2006. He was an active duty member of Enterprise Engine Company on military leave with the Navy since June 2007. He was stationed at Norfolk Naval Base and lived in Newport News, VA with his wife and two kids.
