Fire Consumes Garden City Park Home

No fatalities reported as blaze consumes man's home.

A Garden City Park home on Nassau Boulevard erupted in flames Wednesday night consuming a large portion of the house .

A total of four fire departments responded to the blaze at 171 Marcus Ave. when the fire broke out at about 4:44 p.m. in the rear kitchen of the residence.

Firefighters from Garden City Park, New Hyde Park, Mineola and Stewart Manor responded to the blaze.

According to neighbors, screams were heard in the residence, which is reportedly the home of a single man. A young resident said that she saw smoke in the front of the house, but did not hear any explosion.

Another neighbor in the same house next door to the blaze stated that the gentleman had moved propane tanks stored on his back patio and they may have ignited.

The resident reportedly did not use natural gas but instead relied on oil for his home.

There were no fatalities reported at the scene.

The fire was reported to be extinguished at about 5:15 p.m.
