Update: Explosion from Sawdust Combustion Leaves One Man Injured
A man who was hit in the ear was taken to Winthrop University Hospital.
A worker who was hit in the ear in a minor explosion following sawdust combustion at Piece Management Inc. on 2nd Street was taken to Winthrop University Hospital by the Nassau County police, according to .
The fire broke out around 11:40 a.m. when a collection of sawdust combusted and "blew up a little bit," Willers said. Workers went back into the building around 12:54 p.m. and the fire department and police personnel began leaving the area shortly thereafter.
Willers described the fire as "small."

Update: Piece Management Vice President Jill Siegler explained that sawdust is regularly checked once a month and that this month was a particularly active production month so more dust than usual accumulated. Siegler added that as a result of the fire that this dust accumulation will be checked more than once a month.
