Garden City Park Firefighter Thomas Regan Posthumously Made Chief

Thomas Regan was a chief of Ladder 23 in East Harlem.

Garden City Park firefighter , who passed away Thursday morning after critically injuring his neck following a fall on some ice and snow while responding to a carbon monoxide call, was been named chief of the Garden City Park Fire Department on Friday, according to a press release from the fire department.

This posthumous promotion was made at the request of Chief William Rudnick, First Assistant Chief Roger Green, Second Assistant Chief Robert Mirabile and Third Assistant Chief Timothy Nacewicz, the release said. The Garden City Park board of Commissioners approved this promotion, the release stated.

was Saturday morning at Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church, where his son Thomas recalled during his eulogy his father constantly stopping to help people who were in trouble even if he wasn't dispatched to that area. Thomas also shared stories about his father's love of an "occasional cigar" and constantly laughing.

Regan was chief of Ladder 23 in East Harlem, said Reverend Steven Hannafin. He said during the funeral that his father was studying to be a lieuternant when Regan was chief of the department.
