Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department Responds to Car Accident

Two companies and an ambulance unit of the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department responded to an accident on the Long Island Expressway North Service Road between New Hyde Park Road and Community Drive on June 26 at 1:27 a.m. 

Deputy Chief Pisani was the first unit to respond to the call and was advised that Nassau County Police units were on scene reporting one person pinned under the vehicle. Deputy Chief Pisani arrived on scene and found a car overturned into a utility pole with wires down and one occupant pinned underneath the vehicle.

Once it was determined that the power lines were no longer energized, the crews of Heavy Rescue 8730 and Squad 8759 put their hurst tools into operation to extricate the trapped occupant. Once removed, the patient was transported to the local trauma center by ambulance with Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department medics on board.

Due to the severity of the crash, the crews of Companies 3 and 5 searched the surrounding wooded area with thermal imaging cameras to ensure no other occupants had been ejected from the vehicle. Upon completing to the search with negative results, all units were released from the scene within 45 minutes.
