The , as well as the Garden City Park and Garden City fire departments, aided the Mineola Fire Department as it put out a fire on Horton Highway that broke out around 9 a.m. Wednesday morning, according to Mineola fire Chief Robert Connolly. The blaze was apparently caused by an electrical malfunction.

The fire at 204 Horton Highway was contained by around 9:35 a.m. Neither of the two inhabitants in the house at the time were hurt, Connolly said at the scene. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Connolly said the nature of the blaze was electrical. The two occupants in the house were a mother and child. The mother declined to be interviewed.

The department was responding to an automatic alarm in the house, which was set off by the fire, Connolly explained. The chief added that the fire was contained to the rear bedroom of the home.
