Pedestrian Struck Crossing Jericho Turnpike

No criminal charges filed against driver; victim is in serious but stable condition.

Nassau Police are investigating an accident after a pedestrian was struck on Jericho Turnpike near Leonard Boulevard in New Hyde Park.

According to Third Squad detectives, a 26-year-old male driver was traveling westbound on Jericho Turnpike when he struck a 19-year-old man who was crossing the road heading south.

Nassau County Police ambulance transported the victim, who suffered head trauma, to a local hospital. He is listed in serious but stable condition.

Detectives report no apparent criminality at this time. Brake and safety checks were performed on the vehicle at the scene. A breathalyzer test was also administered on the driver yielding negative results.
