Three men and two juveniles were arrested Wednesday morning by Nassau County Police in Herricks for grand larceny and conspiracy.
According to detectives, Third Precinct police officers responded to an assignment for a suspicious car and persons in the vicinity of Emmett Street and South Street at 4:10 a.m. When officers arrived, a 17-year old male from North New Hyde Park falsely reported that his friend, Christopher Doherty, 20, of Bayside was assaulted by three unknown males. Also present was a 16-year old defendant from College Point and two male juveniles.
An investigation determined the defendants had broken into two vehicles parked on Kent Street in Herricks and Spruce Lane in North New Hyde Park earlier in the night. Police recovered credit cards, a GPS system, sunglasses and a laptop computer belonging to the victims.
All the defendants were charged with fourth degree grand larceny, petit larceny and fifth degree conspiracy. In addition, the 17-year old was charged with third degree falsely reporting an incident and falsifying a written statement. Doherty and the 16 and 17-year olds will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on September 20.
The juveniles were released to the custody of their parents and will appear in Family Court on October 3.
