State Trooper Car Crashes in Garden City Park

State police unit collides with sedan at Nassau Boulevard and Jericho Turnpike intersection.

A New York State Police car was incolved in a two-car accident in Garden City Park Friday at the intersection of Jericho Turnpike and Nassau Boulevard.

The accident reportedly occurred at 10:46 a.m. Friday morning when a marked state police car was responding to a call for service in the Mineola area along with two additional police units.

State police say that while traveling west on Jericho Turnpike at the intersection with Nassau Boulevard, the marked unit was struck by a white sedan that was traveling southbound on Nassau Boulevard. The collision spun the state police unit around and it struck a utility pole in a nearby median.

The driver of the civilian vehicle was checked by Nassau County Police Ambulance and refused treatment at the scene. The trooper involved was transported to Winthrop Hospital and was treated and released for a head injury.

The intersection of Jericho Turnpike and Nassau Boulevard was closed in all directions south of First Street, north of Dyckman Avenue, east of the Walgreens Drug store and west of the entrance to the King Kullen parking lot while the incident is investigated.
