Study Sheds Light On ‘Deadly’ Nassau Roads

Fatalities on Jericho Turnpike highlighted alongside Hempstead Turnpike.

A new study from the Tri-State Transportation Campaign has named 16 miles of Hempstead Turnpike that runs through Nassau County as the most dangerous road in the tri-state region for pedestrians.

However, in addition to Route 24, the study also notes some of the fatal accidents which have occurred along Jericho Turnpike and Hillside Avenue.

While a found that readers felt the most dangerous intersection in New Hyde Park was at Jericho Turnpike and New Hyde Park Road, the survey notes the fatalities that occurred along the turnpike at South 12th Street, South 11th Street and . A fatality on Hillside Avenue and Stewart Avenue in North New Hyde Park near the Stop & Shop was also highlighted.

The fatalities were all senior citizens over the age of 60, all occurring between 2008 and 2010.

The State Department of Transportation is said to be close to starting their reconstruction of Jericho Turnpike shortly with .
