Suspicious Fire at Hillside Avenue Liquor Store

Garden City Park Firefighters respond to fire at V.J. Wine & Liquors

A suspicious fire is being investigated at a liquor store on Hillside Avenue in North New Hyde Park Saturday night. Members of the Garden City Park Fire Department responded to an original alert of smoke at 10:06 p.m. in the basement at 1621 Hillside Ave. however found nothing.

At least two engines and an ambulance responded to the scene as well as several Nassau County Police cars.

According to Chief William Rudnick, when fire department personnel found no trace of fire but detected the odor of burning, they proceeded to check each of the neighboring store locations, discovering a fire on the first floor at V.J. Wine & Liquor at 1623A Hillside Ave. at about 10:33 p.m.

There were no injuries reported at the scene. Fire marshals were requested to the scene to investigate.
