Teacher’s Aide Charged with Inappropriate Relationship with Disabled Student

Ivone Oliviera allegedly had inappropriate relationship with student at Henry Viscardi School.

A teacher's aide at the Henry Viscardi School in Albertson has been arrested and charged with having an inappropriate relationship with one of the disabled students, Nassau County Police said.

According to detectives from the Third Precinct, Ivone Oliviera, 34, of Levittown, was arrested Thursday at 7:25 p.m. and charged with endangering the welfare of a disabled person. 

Police claim Oliviera, while working at the school for students with various physical disabilities on I.U. Willets Road in January 2013, displayed inappropriate physical contact with one of the students, hugging and kissing him.

An investigation discovered the she had also sent the student text messages and photos from her phone which was of a sexual manner.

Oliviera will be arraigned on Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.

Henry Viscardi spokesperson Kim Brussell confirmed that Oliviera is no longer an employee of the school.

In a statement, Brussell said that “as required, we immediately reported to law enforcement and state officials for immediate investigation. Our school has been cooperating fully and completely with the investigation. Our first priority is to ensure that our students are always safe and protected while they are in our care—a priority that will not waiver.”
