Teens Charged with Burglaries in New Hyde Park, Elmont

Nassau Police have arrested two juveniles for burglaries between September and December 2011.

have arrested two youths in connection with four burglaries in Elmont and New Hyde Park between September and December 2011.

According to Fifth Precinct detectives, two juveniles aged 15 and 16, knocked on the door of an Elmont home on Franklin Street on Sept. 14, 2011 between 8:15 a.m. and 5 p.m. When they ascertained no one was home, they allegedly broke the victim’s side rear window, gaining entry to a bedroom and removed electronic equipment valued at approximately $3,300.

Further, on Sept. 26, 2011, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., the two defendants knocked on the door of a second Elmont home on Crown Avenue, entering the victim’s home through an unlocked bedroom window when they learned no one was home and removed electronic equipment valued at approximately $2,600.

The defendants allegedly burglarized a home on Fifth Avenue in New Hyde Park on Oct. 20, 2011 between 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. using the same techniques, entering through an unlocked window at the rear of the house and taking electronics valued at approximately $1,280.

The defendants allegedly committed a fourth burglary, this time at an Elmont home on Fieldmore Street on Dec. 13, 2011 between 7 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., again entering through an unlocked rear window and making off with jewelry valued at approximately $7,620 and cash.

The juveniles, whose names were not released due to their ages, were both charged with four counts of second degree burglary and are being custodialized before proceedings in Nassau County Family Court.
