Charges of grand larceny have been dropped against the New Hyde Park Fire Commissioner and his firefighter son, resulting in a case against them to be dismissed without a trial.
New Hyde Park Fire Commissioner Michael Dolan and his son, Michael J. Dolan, a volunteer firefighter, were arrested and charged with grand larceny theft of smoke detectors from the fire department in July 2012.
A spokesperson for the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office confirmed that the charges were dropped on October 12, but declined further comment.
“The seriousness of this allegation resonated throughout our days during these past few months,” Dolan, an ex-Chief said in a statement. “Our family, friends and neighbors, including firefighters alike, provided constant support and encouragement which carried us through. We are truly grateful to them all.”
Added the younger Dolan: “I’m thrilled for us both that the truth was exposed and truth prevailed.”
