First responders were in Manhasset Saturday morning, when a woman opened her door and to her surprise found a large hole in her front yard.
"This is a sinkhole – it was caused by all the rain we had yesterday and last night," said North Hempstead Office of Emergency Management Director Tom McDonough. "Ninety-five percent of the Manhasset area and other areas of Nassau County – mainly on the North Shore – have cesspools and they create these sinkholes."
These sinkholes, he said, are very dangerous, adding, "People need to stay away from them – they can swallow humans."
