2012 Election: New York 16th Assembly District

Republican challenger Richard Stiek looks to unseat incumbent Democrat, Michelle Schimel.

In New York's District 16 race, Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel will be seeking reelection against Republican Richard Stiek.

The incumbant, also representing the Working Families Party and Independence Party of New York State ran unoposed in the Sept. 14 Democratic primary in September. 

Since winning a special election in 2007 to attain office, the longtme Great Neck resident defeated Republicans Scott Diamond in 2010 and Matthew Mitchellin in 2008 during general elections.

Her Republican opponent, Richard E. Stiek, ran unopposed in the Republican primary. The Port Washington resident is also running on the Conservative Party ticket.

The general election takes place on Nov. 6.


Parts of Great Neck, Port Washington, Manhasset, Albertson, Roslyn, Garden City Park, North New Hyde Park, Mineola, Old Westbury and Williston Park.
