Written by Adina Genn

A Sept. 11 memorial service will be held at Clark Botanic Gardens, 193 I.U. Willets Road in Albertson on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 8:30 a.m.

Sponsored by the Town of North Hempstead, the service is open to all. Officials say the occasion provides an opportunity for the community to reflect on the tragic events of 12 years ago.

Thousands lost their lives on Sept. 11, including 55 residents of the Town of North Hempstead.

Billed as the “largest and oldest feast on Long Island,” the event brings live entertainment, rides, food and more, including fireworks on Sunday, Sept. 8.

The festa is sponsored by the John Michael Marina Lodge #1389, Sons of Italy in America, in Port Washington. Proceeds support a variety of charities. Get the details.

And Speaking of Feasts…

The Cellini Lodge #2206, Sons of Italy in America, recently held its annual Italian Festival from Aug. 14-18 at Michael J. Tully Park.  Proceeds of this fundraiser provide approximately 80 percent of the Lodge’s revenue for the year and help to support local scholarships and national charities.  We hear Councilwoman Lee R. Seeman, D-Great Neck, a sponsor of this annual event, helped to serve homemade pasta and sauce to diners.
