Photos: Angela Powers Honored for Service

The local Republican leader received citations and accolades for her work.

Head of the Stewart Manor-New Hyde Park Republican Committee Angela Powers was honored at Umberto's Wednesday night for her service to the group and larger community.

Local politicians such as , R-New Hyde Park, and , R-Mineola, described the powerhouse that Powers has been for the party and how difficult it is to say no to her.

"Truly a force of nature," Nicolello said describing her. "She really is woman of the year."

Nicolello and Martins also recounted some close races and how the Stewart Manor and New Hyde Park area was helpful to them.

"It was the votes from Stewart Manor and New Hyde Park that put me over the top last year," Martins said.

He won last year by 451 votes.

"I often think 'What would Angela want me to do'," Martins said of how he votes on issues so that he can "stare her in the eyes."

Powers was also the first female president of the .
