Senator Jack M. Martins is partnering with Long Island Cares as well as local communities to collect food for those in need during a drive from August 1-21. There will be Long Island Cares drop boxes for food collection throughout the Seventh Senate District for those wishing to donate food.
Community members can donate food by dropping it in one of the food collection receptacles. Items needed include canned food, peanut butter and jelly, nuts, granola bars, cookies, crackers, pasta, macaroni and cheese, rice and hot and cold cereals. Other packaged items can be donated as well.
Long Island Cares delivers food to over 560 food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, group homes, day treatment facilities, senior nutrition sites and day care centers in Nassau and Suffolk counties.
