FunDay Monday, a program for seniors at in Port Washington from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.,  begins July 9.

Here is the schedule:

• July 9. “Welcome Back Beach Party.”  Performance by Stan & Edie.  Stan is the original lead singer of the Del Satins, Dion’s background vocal group on all of his hit records, and was recently voted into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame.  Edie has performied with Stan for 12 years.
• July 16. “Las Vegas Day.”  A tribute to the Rat Pack.
• July 23. “Sock Hop.”  Rock with Vic Vincent.
• July 30. “Health Fair.” Screenings, literature, and education materials.
• August 6. “Blue Hawaii.”  See the Dance Aloha. Then, let Elvis make your dreams come true in Blue Hawaii.
• August 13. “Mardi Gras.”  Dancing, feathers, beads, masks, and jazz with local recording artist, Vincent Rhodes. 
• August 20. “Pirates of the Gold Coast.”  Enjoy an afternoon with CD Rocks Entertainment.
• August 27. “HomeTown USA Family Day.”  A celebration of American traditions and Salute to the Armed Forces.

Weekly line-dance classes from 10-11 a.m. Yoga and bridge from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. Rain dates held the Thursday following the rain-out.

Summer Concert Series Begins

The town’s free , held Sundays at North Hempstead Beach Park, begins Sunday, July 8, 1 p.m. The Projekt, covering hits from every category of popular music, kicks off the series.  

Parking is $15. Season-long parking passes are available for $40, at either North Hempstead Beach Park or Manorhaven Beach Park.  The same parking permit applies for both parks.  Seniors can buy a season-long pass for $25.

Town Attorney Steps Down 

Town Attorney is leaving the public sector to join Garden City-based Bond, Schoeneck & King. There he will serve as senior counsel, focusing on labor and employment, municipal law, and land use and zoning.  

During his eight-year tenure with the town, Finkel originated a case that prevented Nassau County from imposing on taxpayers $1.2 million in costs attributable to student enrollment at the Fashion Institute of Technology, much of it attributable to students enrolled in that school’s baccalaureate and masters degree programs. Though town and city residents across the county benefitted from the decision, North Hempstead was the first and only municipality to take on the issue. 

Finkel also negotiated three collective bargaining agreements with the town’s unionized work force, mediated disputes between labor and management, assisted in the pioneering re-implementation of flow control in the Town.

South Korean Delegation Visits

and the town board recently hosted a delegation, headed by Mayor Kang Un-tae, from Gwangju Metropolitan City, Republic of Korea. With a nod to the town’s growing diversity, the leaders focused on sharing ideas about environmental protection.

Elected mayor in 2010, Kang is preparing Gwangju to host the 2015 World University Games. The summer event will revolve around four key themes: peace, information technology showcasing the city’s burgeoning optical industry, service, and ecology.

Kang discussed reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Gwangju, located in the Jeolla region known for agriculture. Kaiman discussed the town’s School Recycling Partnership Program, and a study of the town’s carbon footprint.

The luncheon meeting was sponsored by the Korean American Public Affairs Committee, headed by its president, David Lee.
