Funding Secured for New Hyde Park Improvement Project

Sen. Jack Martins announced funding to revitalize Memorial Park.

Visitors to New Hyde Park's Memorial Park can expect to see rehabilitated and refurbished tennis courts, basketball court and walking path.

That's thanks to Sen. Jack Martins, R-Mineola, who announced Monday that he has
secured state funding for this community improvement project in the Village of
New Hyde Park.

Memorial Park is widely utilized by Village residents and is home to the Village’s Children’s Summer Recreation Program.

“Memorial Park gives New Hyde Park residents a place where they can have fun, play ball, or just enjoy the outdoors," Martins said.

"Upgrading the courts and walking path will help improve the services Memorial Park provides for the community," he added. "I am pleased that this funding will enable the Village to make these upgrades.”

The announcement is welcome news to the community.

“We have seen tremendous demand for use of these courts, but since they are in such dire need of repair, they are currently unusable," said New
Hyde Park Mayor Robert Lofaro.

"We would have needed to wait at least two more years to raise the necessary funding, but this grant will enable us to deliver proper and safe courts and a walking path for our residents this year to use and enjoy,” he added.

Information was not immediately available as to when the project would begin.
