Hempstead Town Announces Triathlon, Lax Clinics

A weekly look-in at news from around the Town of Hempstead.

The Town of Hempstead will host its 29th annual triathlon on Sept. 7 at 8 a.m. in the Town Park at Point Lookout.

The triathlon is a combination of a three-quarter mile ocean swim, 10-mile bike ride and five-mile run.

Entry forms may be obtained by sending a stamped, self-addressed envelope to: Town of Hempstead Triathlon, 200 North Franklin St., Hempstead, N.Y. 11550.

The registration deadline is Aug. 28. For information, call 292-9000, ext. 219.

The fee for the triathlon is $44 for residents, $66 for non-residents and $22 for resident seniors and veterans. Fees are payable by check or money order made out to the Town of Hempstead Program.

Lax Clinics

From individualized instruction and specialty position sessions to group clinics, the Town of Hempstead Lacrosse Academy will bolster skills and build confidence. Staffed by collegiate players and Long Island’s best coaches, the Lacrosse Academy thrives on fundamentals and fun.

The Lacrosse Academy will travel throughout the township this summer, offering weekly clinics, one-on-one training, small group lessons and specialty position clinics for the experienced player.

Aspiring lacrosse players will receive expert instruction on passing, catching, shooting and defending. There are drills and techniques specific to goalies as well. Players are reminded to bring their own equipment to all sessions.

Clinics are open to boys and girls from 5 to 15 years of age. Registration forms for clinics, specialty position sessions and one-on-one instruction are available online. Please note that the Lacrosse Academy is open to TOWN OF HEMPSTEAD RESIDENTS ONLY.
