Hofstra University Hosts Medicaid Reform Forum

Gov. Cuomo's fact-finding team asks local residents for help in making effective changes.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's Medicaid redesign team hosted a forum at Hofstra University on Friday in order to get local opinions on how best to overhaul the medical assistance program that about five million New Yorkers currently rely on.

The board, lead by co-chair and  CEO Michael Dowling, took comments and suggestions on medicaid redesign from all comers. Patch was there, and now gives you a look into the process that will shape the very future of medical aid in New York state.

Thanks Patch for this important information! It is vital to fix Medicaid and supporting people's desire to stay out of Nursing Homes and Age in Place.

Most of the people collecting Medicaid aren't even US CITIZENS.. Its a Joke.. They come here for a free ride and have children they don't even want, but it keeps them here and keeps them collecting medicaid.. Most of our own U.S. CITIZENS don't even collect it even when they really need it.. Illegal immgration has to stop ...

Where are the facts to back up this comment? There is fraud and abuse of the Medicaid system, but the problem is NOT illegal immigration!

Patty, the whole purpose of this public hearing was to get ideas for improvement. What can the government do? This is a link to where we can all go to submit our ideas to Governor Cuomo: http://www.health.ny.gov/health_care/medicaid/redesign/ New York State alone, according to this site, spends $53 billion on Medicaid. There's got to be some efficiencies of scale that can be taken, at the very least, no?

Yes, some contentious moments, but generally agrees with the author of the topic.
