Kaiman Reportedly on Short Candidate List to Head LIPA

Longtime Great Neck resident named to possibly fill vacant executive post.

North Hempstead Supervisor Jon Kaiman is on a short list of candidates for the chief executive position at the Long Island Power Authority, according to a Newsday report.

Kaiman, a longtime resident of Great Neck, has served as supervisor in North Hempstead since Jan. 1, 2004. He is a Democrat.

The appointment, which has yet to be finalized by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s office, could come as early as Oct. 2, according to Newsday.

Kaiman, 50, serves as the chairman of the town’s Solid Waste Management Authority, Commissioner of the Great Neck North Water Authority, a board member of the Long Island Regional Planning Council and as a board member of the Association of a Better Long Island. He is a former trustee of Temple Israel of Great Neck.

After serving since 2007, former LIPA chief Kevin Law left in September 2010 to head up the Long Island Association.

LIPA, a non-profit municipal electric utility, provides electric service to more than 1.1 million customers in Suffolk and Nassau and the Rockaway Peninsula in Queens.

The following comment was posted to the New Hyde Park Patch Facebook page by Ed Gerbe: "Here we go with the political appointments again. There are a number of unemployed execs that would take the job for a fraction of the pay. Kaiman so good? Why have the bathrooms at Tully Park been closed for 2 months? Why did they replace a good fence that still was in reasonably good condition?:

this is not reporting news this is creating false information to pay back an inept , subservient politician by the mega cable company

And the wheel of the politically connected spins again. How can LIPA put someone in charge with ZERO experience in the utility field? Remember Kessel? We all know how well that worked out. Just let PSEG run things outright, they seem to be doing a pretty good job in NJ, along with JCP&L. Because political hacks run LIPA, we dont have modern poles and insulators like they do in NJ, not even spacer cable!
