Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jon Kaiman will forgo a run for county district court judge after being appointed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo to a state position as special Long Island adviser with the New York Rising Community Reconstruction Program, Patch confirmed Thursday.

In attendance with Cuomo and U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Shawn Donovan Thursday at a conference in Albany to introduce the program, Kaiman, 51, has served for 10 years as supervisor in North Hempstead. In May, the Great Neck resident announced he will not seek a seventh term.

There has been no word regarding when Kaiman will assume his new role with the state.

In recent months, Kaiman showed interest in a bid for Nassau County executive and was mentioned as a possible candidate for a top position with the Long Island Power Authority.

The New York Rising Community Reconstruction Program is described by Cuomo as a bottom-up, community driven initiative that will empower localities that were severely damaged by Superstorm Sandy, Hurricane Irene, or Tropical Storm Lee to develop comprehensive and innovative local rebuilding plans that will be funded by the state and federal government.

The program will be funded by federal supplemental disaster aid approved earlier this year.

Nassau County Legis. Judi Bosworth, D-Great Neck, is running to replace Kaiman in North Hempstead.

Bosworth is running against against Town Councilwoman Dina De Giorgio, R-Port Washington, who announced her candidacy for supervisor in April.
