Long Island, N.Y. — The latest green initiative by the Town of North Hempstead asks young people to construct fashionable clothing out of recyclable trash then display their work in the first-ever town "Trashion Show."
With greening the environment one of his self-proclaimed top priorities, Supervisor Jon Kaiman says the Trashion Show initiative helps students to become "stewards of the environment."
Set for Jan. 9 at the Yes We Can Community Center in Westbury, the runway event will feature clothing designed and made by students from nine school districts participating in Kaiman's School Recycling Partnership Program.
“Not only does this provide students with a fun and exciting way of displaying their creativity, but it also helps to protect the environment and promote environmental sustainability,” said Kaiman in a release.
Emceed by environmental educator Nancy Judd of Recycle Runway, the event begins at 6 p.m.
