Mail Service in New Hyde Park: Has It Improved?

New Hyde Park residents and business owners who complained about slow mail delivery were not exaggerating.

Those in areas with zip codes 11040 and 11042 experienced delayed mail service this winter, Newsday reported. Complaints included late checks and bills, medication that never arrived, lost invitations and more.

"We've had a perfect storm of issues," Bob Guglielmo, postmaster for the U.S. Postal Service in New Hyde Park, told Newsday. Delays were triggered by trimmed staff, new route configurations, and carriers who were hurt on the job because of hazardous winter conditions. Service has since picked up thanks to efforts by North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth (D-Great Neck), Sen. Jack Martins (R-Mineola) and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.).
