“And they’ve got nothing on me,” she said standing in front of the members of the New Hyde Park Village Board during a meeting on Tuesday night at the village hall. “I’ve come here a decent amount of times and spoken about how I make a difference and stuff and I’m really happy to be here, fell like Ive matured through this whole process, you guys have watched me grow up from the very first day I came here I was like all nervous and shaky and now I’m here; I talk, I learned to speak here, I learned a lot here, actually.”

Rasch is set to leave Friday morning for an 8 hour rehearsal before the pageant, which is part of the Miss USA circuit, begins with the preliminary round on Saturday at 7 p.m. Saturday, with eliminations to come on Sunday.

The New Hyde Park Memorial High School sophomore, who baked cookies for the board and those in attendance at the meeting, said that she lost a “lot of respect from her peers” due to the pageant, becoming a cyber-bullying victim and even having a derogatory facebook page made about her.

“I’d rather have the respect of the community and of adults than the respect of my peers,” she said, noting that she is hoping to attend the University of Texas.

“We’re going to be with you as you go, in spirit,” Petruccio said. “We’re going to be very excited to see the outcome of the pageant.”
