New Hyde Park Mayor's Message: Taking the Reins

Mayor Robert Lofaro pays tribute to Petruccio at first meeting as mayor.

The following are the opening remarks of New Hyde Park Mayor Robert Lofaro made during the public meeting of the New Hyde Park Village Board on April 2, 2013:

I will absolutely admit to you – and I’ll try not to cry again – but, I miss Dan Petruccio dearly. This is such a bittersweet situation for me here: I’m delighted to serve as mayor but in 12 years, or as many years as we’ve been together with Dan, it’s just going to take a long time to get used to, so I ask you for your patience and understanding and guidance and assistance but we’ll get there and things will be fine. Dan is just a phone call away but this is going to be a very difficult transition for, I know myself, and I’m sure the board and everyone else as well.

Dan will always be here in spirit because as we continue with our mission, it’s the mission that we’ve all been working towards and Dan as we are as proud of him for the work he’s done, I’m sure he’s continually proud of us for making sure we keep his tax rate stable.
