New Hyde Park Village highway crews have prepared all of the village’s equipment including trucks, payloaders, chain saws, and wood chippers in preparation of strong wind and excessive rain associates with Hurricane Sandy.
The backup generator at the department of public works garage is available to keep that building in operations.
Mayor Daniel Petruccio is prepared to issue a State of Emergency for the Village of New Hyde Park on Monday as the storm gets closer, which may include the closing of village hall.
The department of public works would remain in an around the clock operation. Normal garbage collection is expected on Monday.
Areas of concern in addition to power outages and tree damage would be flooding due to accumulation of leaves in storm water drains and flooding on roads under construction as the draining pitch has not been completed.
