New Hyde Park Residents React to Roslyn Country Club

New Hyde Park residents were against the potential takeover and voiced their concerns at the public hearing.

A handful of New Hyde Park residents spoke against the during Tuesday night's board meeting. From not having enough information to fears about increased taxes to disbelief that this project can sustain itself, there were several comments against the project.

Jim McHugh spoke with his brother-in-law, Ron Rossi, about projections they made regarding the cost of the project. These projections are based on their numbers and not the Town's.

Before giving their presentation, Rossi said to Kaiman and the board, "If I was in negotiations for my client for three to four months and I don't have general figures to bring back to my client ..."

McHugh said given the projections for a $25 million project, if that is what this turns out to be, 2,400 members to break even would be needed for the facility. Kaiman noted that he does not agree with the figures given.

"If you really do the numbers, this cannot break even, no way, no how in God's green acre," McHugh said.

also said at the start of the hearing that there have not been many projections made because that might create confusion.

"If we start throwing out numbers, they create confusion and lead to some misinformation," he said.

Marietta DiCamillo, president of the North Lakeville civic association, and , president of the Lakeville Estates civic association, said their groups do not support this project.

“Allow the people in the Roslyn community to pay their own tax for this country club, not myself or others that are not in the community,” said Wohlgemuth. “We pay our own taxes in New Hyde Park.”

She suggested a special park district such as the one for . Wohlgemuth also said she had several petitions against the project.

During the meeting, there were also comments in favor of the project, citing that it would boost the Country Club area of Roslyn and also provide the rest of the Town with another recreational facility.
