New Hyde Park Residents Must Pay for New Recycling Bins

New replacement recycling bins to cost between $15-20.

The Village of New Hyde Park will no longer be providing recycling bins and cans to residents for free.

“We don’t have any left,” village department of public works superintendent Tom Gannon said during a meeting of the village board on August 21 at the .

The revelation came after a resident asked if she could get a new recycling bin since hers had “split in the middle” and her lid had been lost after many years of use.

Gannon noted that the village would be purchasing more but “we’ve decided that we’re going to charge exactly what they cost us to purchase them from now on.”

He was not sure of exact price for a replacement bin, but said it would be between $15-20, adding that the cans are also available from Lowe’s, Home Depot and Best Hardware on Jericho Turnpike,

“Anything that’s listed ‘recycling’ right on it,” Gannon said. “Just as you would replace your garbage can.”
