New Hyde Park Swears in Second Female Trustee in Village History
Donna Squicciarino formally installed as village trustee.
The Village of New Hyde Park installed its newest trustee Tuesday night as Mayor Robert Lofaro swore in Donna Squicciarino as only the second woman to sit at the village dais in the 86-year history of the village.
“We’re delighted to have you on the board,” Lofaro said at the village hall before the start of the regular meeting. “Hopefully you’ll keep us in order and bring great ideas and you have some great financial background so that’s going to be quite helpful.”
Squicciarino was appointed to the board on April 22 to fill Lofaro’s unexpired term as trustee. She was previously an accounting consultant for the Village of New Hyde Park, a position she resigned the same night she was sworn in as a trustee. She was also employed on a part-time basis in the Sewanhaka Central High School District and the Mineola School District. Her resume also includes positions at Fleet Securities and Pricewaterhouse Coopers.
The first – and previous – female trustee in the village was Florence Lisanti, who left the board in 2001.
Following his election as mayor in March, Lofaro had indicated that he would like to see a female presence return to the board as a trustee.
“I’d just like to take a minute and thank the mayor and the trustees for their faith in me,” Squicciarino said. “I appreciate the opportunity, I want to also just give thanks to my family; Tuesday nights are going to be a little different. This is very exciting.”
